About The Event
John Nelson discusses the research behind his film Troubled Waters: The History of the St. Lucie River. The film will explore the history of the river from the 1880's till today. Nelson will present the early pioneers of the Treasure Coast and their efforts to open the river for commerce and public safety. Learn about the hurricane of 1928 and the local, state, and federal government’s efforts to dike and control Lake Okeechobee by draining excess water into the St. Lucie River. John discusses the role of the environmental pioneers who forewarned of the environmental disaster that was destined to occur.
