The sanctuary protects the largest remaining old-growth bald cypress forest in the world. These ancient trees provide food and shelter for thousands of species, from the tallest Wood Stork to the smallest green treefrog


  • One of its most famous features is the 2.25-mile (≈ 2.25-mile) boardwalk that winds through diverse swamp and forest environments including what is the largest old-growth bald cypress forest in North America
