Monthly Speaker Series - Success Stories & Updates from Jonathan Dickinson State Park with Rob Rossmanith

Join us for an informative lecture with Jonathan Dickinson State Park's biologist Rob Rossmanith. Rob will share news of JDSP's important work with endangered birds. A Zoom meeting link will be sent to all who register for this fascinating online event. -- 

EVENT: Updates from Jonathan Dickinson State Park: Jays, RCWs, & the North Fork

Rob will be talking about some ongoing projects and success stories in the park – especially as they relate to a few species of birds. First, he will talk a little bit about the Florida scrub-jay population at JDSP and the rebounding numbers. Next, he shares info about a much newer project – the red-cockaded woodpecker reintroduction that started in 2020. Lastly, he will highlight a the North Fork Weir project that was built in late 2019 and how it is helping improve hydrology in the park. In other words, we will take a brief tour of the “high” elevation scrub, move to the lower elevation flatwoods, and end in the swamps of the North Fork.

SPEAKER BIO:

Rob is from south-east Virginia and graduated from Virginia Tech in 2000 with a Wildlife Science degree and went on to earn a Master’s Degree from Southern Illinois University in 2004. Rob has worked for the Florida Park Service since 2002 in various capacities including as an exotic plant technician, Park Ranger at JDSP, and as the Park Biologist at JDSP since 2004.
