About The Event

The Jones Hammock Preserve & Platt's Creek Preserve is a restored wetland area in St. Lucie County, helping to filter water along the Ten Mile Creek tract, and in turn, attract a myriad of birds. The last two CBCs conducted on this property, currently closed to the public, easily netted counters 50 species in just two hours, including Purple Gallinule, Northern Harrier, and Swamp Sparrows.

The terrain in these two preserves is uneven, and mostly earthen paths, including stepping on and across concrete weirs. Our route is around 3 miles, and the selected route includes the pond area above the wetland. Please be advised that trails may have high vegetation in some areas.

Space is limited to 10 attendees. And will be with our other Treasure Coast Audubon Chapters!

Directions: The location of Jones Hammock Preserve is on Bell Avenue between Promenade Way and Wilderness Drive; it's the section of Bell Avenue between Sunrise Blvd and S. 25th Street. Take US 1 northbound to Midway Rd, turn left on Midway Rd, right on Sunrise Blvd, then left on Bell Avenue. Or, take I-95 north to Exit 126/Midway Rd. Bear right off the ramp toward US-1, turn left on S. 25th Street, then right on Bell Avenue. Park vehicles on the grass by the brown, wooden sign. Please plan to carpool when possible and park vehicles "head in" only, as close as possible. Parking is very limited.
